In the state of Pennsylvania, some adults are considered mandated reporters of suspected child
abuse.

Integrating some offenders can be done safely and well, but it takes a considerable amount of time and resource. We have worked with churches that have successfully done this, but it cannot happen before the congregation, not just a few leaders, are educated about how to keep children safe from sexual harm – within and outside of the church.

Recently, I started learning more about child sex abuse. Although I’ve never written on this subject, I feel called to be a voice in this area. I believe that we all have an obligation to be advocates for children. After all, children can’t protect themselves.

The #MeToo movement, and its multiple streams including #ChurchToo, have made it clear that the time of maintaining the status quo and prioritizing institutional and professional reputation over victims is ending.
